These blue-green, metallic coloured birds have a blush of violet in the ear coverts. Found from southern South Africa to Zambia and Gabon. They are fairly common, preferring sparse ground cover, foraging in small flocks of 6-10 birds. They are often seen in the Kruger Park in winter. Food consists of insects, berries, fruit and food scraps.
