Turacos were previously known as Louries in South Africa. These birds are found in the eastern parts of South Africa but are common in Mozambique and further north in eastern Africa. Turacos prefer riverine forest, dense thorn-veld and woodland. They run along branches and keep to the canopy of trees with flight interspersed with glides. Food consists of fruit, while the young are fed insects and slugs.
